Get your free estimateRheem Thermostat Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock Rheem-compatible thermostats and install them across Dallas, with most swaps running $180 – $340 installed, parts and labor included. Same-day installation is available in most Dallas neighborhoods when you call before early afternoon, and every job starts with a written price before we touch a screw. The usual way homeowners find us: the display goes blank, the AC won’t kick on when the Dallas heat climbs past 95°, or the heat stays off when a February cold snap drops the house to 58° overnight.
Which Rheem Models This Applies To
This covers essentially every Rheem system we encounter in Dallas homes: the Classic and Prestige series gas furnaces, Rheem heat pumps (R-410A and the newer R-454B lines), Rheem air handlers, and the packaged rooftop units common on older East Dallas and Oak Cliff properties. The thermostat itself is rarely the mystery. The gotcha is wiring compatibility. Older Rheem setups from the mid-2000s and earlier often use a proprietary communicating thermostat with only two or four wires at the wall. Standard smart thermostats won’t run on those without a new wire pull or an adapter, and the wrong adapter will leave your system short-cycling or refusing to stage heat properly. Newer Rheem units with standard 24V control wiring accept almost any quality thermostat, but we always verify voltage at the wall before quoting.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Rheem-branded stats are fine, but we install just as many Honeywell and Ecobee units on Rheem equipment. The key spec to match is staging. A two-stage Rheem furnace or two-stage heat pump needs a thermostat that actually controls two stages. A single-stage thermostat on two-stage equipment will run, but you lose efficiency and comfort you already paid for.

Signs Your Rheem Thermostat Installation Is Failing
- Display is blank or flickering. This usually means dead batteries or, more commonly on Dallas homes with older wiring, a broken connection at the backplate. If fresh batteries don’t fix it, the thermostat itself is done.
- System short-cycles. The AC kicks on for four minutes, shuts off, kicks on again. The thermostat is misreading temperature or a relay inside it is sticking. This also drives Dallas summer electric bills up fast.
- Room temperature doesn’t match the setting. You set 72°, the room sits at 78°. The sensor in the stat has drifted or the anticipator setting is wrong. Drifted sensors are not repairable; the fix is replacement.
- The heat or AC won’t turn on at all. If the furnace or air handler has power and the breaker is fine, a dead thermostat is the prime suspect. We test line voltage at the wall before condemning anything.
- Programmed schedule resets or won’t hold. Means the memory chip inside has failed. A thermostat that forgets its schedule every afternoon isn’t quirks. It’s failing hardware.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, a standard non-programmable or programmable thermostat replacement runs $180 – $260 with basic wiring present. A smart thermostat install (Ecobee, Honeywell T-series, or similar Wi-Fi units) runs $260 – $340 installed, more if we need to pull a new common wire, which is common on older Rheem communicating systems. No thermostat job crosses $400 unless the job requires running new control wire through finished walls.
| Thermostat Type | Installed Range (Parts + Labor) |
|---|---|
| Standard programmable | $180 – $260 |
| Smart thermostat (Wi-Fi) | $260 – $340 |
| New common wire pull (if needed) | $60 – $100 added |
| Communicating Rheem OEM stat | $280 – $360 |
Every thermostat install includes testing the full heating and cooling cycle, verifying staging, and programming the schedule with you before we leave. The work is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the installation fails within 365 days, we return at no charge and make it right. Written guarantee included, always.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a thermostat involves low-voltage wiring, so it isn’t dangerous the way a live panel or gas line is, but the failure mode is subtle and expensive. Wrong wiring at the backplate can blow the control board fuse on your Rheem furnace or air handler, which turns a $200 stat swap into a board replacement. If your current Rheem uses a communicating thermostat, or you have more than four wires at the wall, or you’re not fully sure which breaker kills the system, call us at (325) 312-3269. We’ll bring the right stat for your model, quote the price in writing before work starts, and have your system running the same day.
FAQs
Most thermostats on Rheem systems last 10 to 15 years, though Dallas heat and humidity push the sensor toward the lower end of that range. If yours is over 10 years old and acting up, replacement is the better call than fighting it. Call (325) 312-3269 for an exact quote on your setup.
Some failures, like a loose wire or a bad backplate connection, are repairable. A dead sensor, a failed relay, or corrupted memory means full replacement. We test before we recommend anything, and you’ll see the written price for either path before work begins. Estimates are free.
Most swaps take 45 minutes to an hour on Rheem systems. If we need to pull a new common wire, add 30 to 45 minutes. We test both heating and cooling cycles before we call the job done. Call (325) 312-3269 and we’ll schedule around your day.
Yes. Our trucks carry Rheem-compatible standard and smart thermostats, plus Honeywell and Ecobee units that pair well with Rheem equipment. We also stock parts for Carrier, Trane, and Lennox systems, so if the diagnosis points elsewhere, we’re ready. Call (325) 312-3269 and we’ll confirm what’s on the truck before we head your way.
